The Museum of Indian Culture welcomes families to "Native American Heritage Day," an event just for kids that celebrates Native American crafts and lifeways, on Saturday, October 7, 2017 (October 8 rain date) from 9:45 a.m. to 2:20 p.m. This unique event will immerse children and their families in the life-ways and crafts of the America’s first peoples.

Children will have hands-on fun while learning about Native American culture by choosing 7 of the 11 mini workshops that will teach Navajo Sand Painting, Pottery Making, Archaeology Adventures, Native American Medicine Bags, Gourd Rattles, making Frybread, Native American Rock Art, Animal Tracks and Scavenger Hunt, Inuksuk (man-made stone structure), Atlatl (spear thrower), and twisting natural plant fibers to make string. Lunchtime activities include a special dance presentation by world renown performing artist Delwin Fiddler Jr., from the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe, South Dakota.

Pre-registration is required by September 30, 2017. Registration fee is $20 per child with one accompanying adult. Sign-in time will be from 9 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. and activities will begin promptly at 10 a.m. Children must be accompanied by one adult. Special rates may be available for larger families.
