The rural Washington native started out performing country music covers as a teenager. Brandi Carlile concerts were performed throughout the local bar scene of Seattle where she sold her self-released EPs. She garnered industry attention when Dave Matthews noticed her at the Sasquatch! Music Festival, in 2003. She was soon signed to Columbia Records and released her major label self-titled debut in 2005.
